Tom’s education background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz Studies from PSU and a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from George Fox University, Tom has studied flute privately with Dawn Weiss (Oregon Symphony) and Maria Rectenwald, clarinet with Susan Jones (Oregon Symphony) and Stan Stanford (PSU) and saxophone study with Bob Jones, Scott Hall (PSU) and Joe Wimmer. Tom was awarded a scholarship from the Jazz Society of Oregon to study arranging and harmony with Bob Newman with whom he studied for two years.
